Care Inspectorate Wales

Care Inspectorate Wales is responsible for inspecting social care and social services in Wales, they register, inspect and take action to improve the quality and safety of services in Wales.

Care Inspectorate Wales regulates social care and early-years services using the regulations and statutory guidance set out in the National Minimum Standards for Regulated Childcare for Children up to 12 years. The regulations enable Care Inspectorate to regulate the conduct of providers in Wales.

Estyn

Estyn inspects quality and standards across Wales, including nursery schools and settings that are maintained by, or receive funding from, local authorities.

Estyn works jointly with CIW to inspect Care and Education in non-school settings that are funded by Local authorities to provide early education.

Welsh Government publishes review of the National Minimum Standards for regulated childcare

The Welsh Government has published a Review of the National Minimum Standards for regulated childcare which provides recommendations made by the Government following a review of the Standards for childcare for children up to 12 years old.

New process for DBS checks for Registered Person and Responsible Individual

Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) no longer provide paper DBS application forms – therefore you must use the online service to have a DBS check.

If you are registering for the first time or are already registered but need to renew your DBS check and are eligible, you must apply and follow the new process.
